Two or three times a week it is essential to treat your body to scrubbing or exfoliating using a gentle exfoliating scrub or cream all over the body. Scrubbing helps to remove the dull surface cells and gives a better, softer and finer texture along with improving blood circulation.

Exfoliation also helps soften the hard parts of the body such as the knees, elbows, and soles. Sloughing off dead and rough skin cells also helps in absorbing moisturizers well.

Body scrubs must be slightly rougher than the facial scrubs but you should not use them on vulnerable areas such as the neck, arm-pits and back of the knees as it leads to skin irritation and redness.

The following four steps help in scrubbing your body the right way:

1. A few minutes into the shower, when your skin has become moist, take a small amount of scrub and start with the areas prone to cellulite including the thighs and hips. Use firm strokes in a circular motion, and work on for two minutes on each area. Don’t rub on too hard as it will lead to redness.

2. Move on the parts of the body which tend to have rough skin such as the soles, elbows and knees. Rub gently in small circular motions.

3. Shower off all traces of the scrub using water and your fingers in circular direction all over the hips, thighs, knees, elbows and the breast area. If you want to give your body a zest, finish off with cold water.

4. After patting your skin dry, use a moisturizer according to your skin type and massage all over the body especially on the areas that you have scrubbed.

Remember not to scrub more than twice or thrice a week. The best scrubs in the market include St. Ives Apricot Scrub, Soap & Glory Scrub ‘Em and Leave ‘Em Body Buff, and The Body Shop Shea Body Scrub.
