Dolce & Gabbana brought the south of Italy to the world and the brand recognizes similarities between Dominic Dolce's Sicilian roots and Latin culture. That's one of the reasons that the brand brought its Alta Moda culture to Miami. In collaboration with Art Basel, Dolce & Gabbana took over the city in late November with its own singular brand of everyday glamour and singular style, with a focus on fashion for women and men, jewelry, watchmaking and interiors. 

What Is the Alta Moda/Casa Miami Takeover?

Alta Moda has been an annual event for ten years. Each year, Dolce & Gabbana takes its signature brand of fashion and culture to a different spot on the globe. It's a time for the brand to celebrate its own origins, while at the same time, celebrating the culture of the city that it has chosen as the host city.

Former Alta Moda sites include Siracusa and Venice. Of the first Alta Moda, from 2012 in Taormina, the formidable fashion duo Dominique Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have said that many of the emotions, images and sensations from that unforgettable event have accompanied and inspired later collections, defining the way they work and give life to unique creations.

How Did Dolce & Gabbana Settle on Miami for 2022?

Dolce & Gabbana chose Miami for its 2022 Alta Moda celebration because of how it views the city. Dolce & Gabbana sees Miami for the urbane and cosmopolitan epicenter of culture that it is. Miami is known as the Magic City and also as a type of crossroads, where American and Latin cultures meet and commingle. 

Dominique Dolce has offered praise for the Latin community, insisting that as a Sicilian, he loves Latin culture and views it as very close to the D&G world. That culture has certainly made its way into the D&G lines, such as the application of Flamenco polka dots or floral touches.

What Did Dolce & Gabbana Do in Miami?

The brand's Alta Gioielleria and Alta Orologeria were displayed at Design Miami. Meanwhile, D&G also took up residence in the Luxury Living Store, where DG Logo and ORO 24K were introduced. Altogether, Dolce & Gabbana presented about a hundred looks, salon-style, from the Alta Moda and Alta Sartoria collections.

Of course, D&G couldn't have a party in Miami without being feted by Gloria and Emilio Estafan at their Cardoza Hotel because when relevant cultural giants find themselves in the same place, they simply get together. 

How Does Dolce & Gabbana Stay Relevant?

Because of how it views fashion as such a dynamic thing, alive with opportunities, the Dolce & Gabbana brand continues to be relevant. It is capable of absorbing other cultures, as it has done with Alta Moda/Casa Miami and Latin culture. When you see the collections presented at these shows, you see how D&G gives a nod to Latin culture by imposing elements thereof into its own lines.
